Excerpt from the writings of Sir Setiago de Shelbyshire
and his faithful kinsman Sir Miky of Abesham.
O! the struggles inherent in knighthood. A task done well requires much effort, yea in this line of duty, often sacrifice. This kind of work, knights, of course, are well aware. However, what about the knight errant, or shall we rather say, a knight on a certain and purposeful quest. For if we say only a knight in search of adventure, the connotation of such a statement might bring thoughts of a vagabond in whom lieth no stability or purpose. The knight on a mission, therefore, is the subject which we presently consider. This type of knight must possess certain qualities. Courage is indeed a necessity and let it be remembered that courage acts not necessarily in the absence of fear or frightful circumstances, but rather acts despite them. As the famous backwoodsman and statesman David Crockett said, "Be sure you're right. Then go ahead." Discretion is also essential. To know when and how to act is important. Yes, be brave, but do not be rash or foolish. Lastly, strive for that which is larger than thyself. That is to say, take a noble cause that thou hopest will continue even if thou dost fall. If thou perish, be it so while fighting in the trenches, holding up the regal banner, defending your home and fireside with all your might, or charging furiously in the ranks of the enemy. Not all thy time will be spent in the aforementioned action. Daily duties must be completed. Be not bored or discouraged by things that seem mundane, but are essential. In all of this, be in the right, be resolved, and go forward!
